The perfect sunny weather greeted the Hot Dogs for the start of the 2012 season. Put into bat Damon started well hitting first boundary of the season - classy shot. Just when everything looked perfect Damon was out bowled trying to force the pace against spinner Trevis. Vikas who was looking good on his brief stay fell soon. Despite two early wickets we were off to a good run a ball start. Mandar and Manoj then stemmed further fall of wickets by building a partnership and scoring rate was maintained at 6 runs an over. At stroke of drinks around 14th over Mandar fell prey to a field set for mistimed pull shot and was out for 24. And as often happens in cricket a wicket brings another and unfortunately for us soon Manoj was out LBW for a well made 25 and then debutant Dan was run out without facing a ball - 'thats the game' were his words and rightly so! At drinks interval score read 89 for 5 after 15 overs. Run rate was still good but we had lost a wicket or two more than we desired. After the drinks break we required a partnership and that was precisely done by Steve and Karthik. Both rotated the strike and ran well between wickets. They managed to hit boundaries at right time to keep the run rate. Karthik finally was out for 25 and soon Steve for 31 - crucial innings by the two. Just when we were settling for 175-180 kind of target, southpaw JJ Lim announced his arrival by smashing couple of towering sixes towards the end in his breezy knock of 22 of 15 balls to propel the final score to 190 off 30 overs.

Runs on the board, we needed early wickets to squeeze the pressure. Karthik and Garlen started well with the ball with Garlen trapping Basher's opener LBW in his first over. But after the early burst, the opposition managed to build partnerships. Dan on his debut bowled well & took couple of wickets but was unlucky to get any further breakthrough. JJ with his left arm spin tied one end up by drying up one end but runs leaked through other end. Credit to their batsmen they picked their spots to hit boundaries. Trevis the no.4 for Bashers made an unbeaten 66 to steer their team home with 7 wickets in hand with good help from Yates and Malcon.

It was disappointing to be on losing end after putting 190 on board but it was a good game of cricket to start the season. Positives for us was good form shown by batsmen with 5 batsmen getting 20+ scores, we need 1or 2 of them to go on and score 40-50+ score next time. Surely we shall carry this match's learning from both bat and field into the next game and wish to come up on winning side.
